IN 2021, THE INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS’ DEPARTMENT CELEBRATED ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY!
The International Economic Relations’ Department was founded on September 1, 1991. The creation of a new structural division at the Odesa National Economic Institute of was determined by an objective necessity – Ukraine acquired the status of a subject of international economic relations, which conditioned its integration into the world economic space.
The department became one of the first scientific and educational centers in Ukraine, which provided the training of international economists at the “bachelor” and “master’s” levels, capable of solving the tasks of developing Ukraine’s international economic relations at the micro- and macro-level.
The creative heritage of the department, the theoretical and applied achievements of its employees became the material for writing a significant number of textbooks and study guides for students of higher educational institutions of economic profile.
The department’s staff was one of the first in independent Ukraine to create a system of scientific and methodological support for training specialists at the bachelor’s and master’s level in the specialty “International Economic Relations”.
Today, this complex includes more than 80 textbooks and study guides, including those published in English outside of Ukraine and in co-authorship with colleagues from economic universities in Poland, Romania, Moldova and Georgia.
Department specialties and scientific levels
The department prepares bachelors and masters in specialty 292 “International Economic Relations” on full-time and part-time basis.
Prospects of professional development
Deep study of a foreign language, various professionally oriented disciplines will allow graduates of the “International Economic Relations” educational program to conduct negotiations with foreign partners, organize and manage export-import operations, manage foreign branches and representative offices, work as a representative of international trade companies, specialists of international logistics firms , become a successful entrepreneur and open a business related to international economic activity.
Graduates of the “International Economic Relations” educational program can realize themselves in the following positions:
1. the expert on international economic relations/
2. the specialist in planning and analysis of the company’s activities in foreign markets.
3. the economist – expert consultant on foreign economic issues.
4. the manager of foreign economic activities.
5. the head of companies that carry out export-import activities, attract foreign investments, conclude foreign economic contracts and cooperate with foreign business partners

For the fourth time, the teachers and students of the International economic relations’ department took part in the global network learning model IBUS 280 International Relations and Global Leadership, organized by the Carson College of Business of Washington State University!
This year, teachers Inna Ukhanova, Olena Voronova, Olha Husenko and 12 students studying under the educational program “International Economic Relations” met via Zoom with teachers and students of Hadji Zeka University (Kosovo), American University in Kyiv, Sumy State University.
During 9 weeks of classes, students and teachers participated in discussions with guest lecturers: Professor Erdogan Koc (Bahcesehir University, Turkey), Jon Kerrigan (Nebraska Department of Agriculture, USA), Professor Amer Alaya (University of Birmingham Dubai), Professor Hanna Shvindina (American University Kyiv, Ukraine ), Professor Ashish Dahiya (Maharshi Dayanand University, India), Professor Tetyana Mayboroda (Sumy State University, Ukraine), Professor Enkeleda Lulaj (University “Haxhi Zeka”, Kosovo). The result of the work was the presentation “International economic relations of Ukraine during the war and post-war economic recovery”.



On June 1, 2023, teachers of the Department of International Economic Relations, Olena Voronova and Olena Mindova, together with students of the “International Economic Relations” specialty, attended lectures by guest professors.
Professor James Davis (Professor of International Politics, University of St.Gallen, St.Gallen, Switzerland. Director, Institute for Political Science, University of St.Gallen) gave a lecture “The war from the standpoint of International Relations Theory”
Professor Philip Nichols (Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania)
gave a lecture “The three basic building blocks of emerging economies.


On May 10, 2023, the teacher of the Department of International Economic Relations, Olga Gusenko, together with foreign students (China) of the preparatory course attended the guest lecture “GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY 2.0: UKRAINIAN WARTIME HARVEST”, presented by VITALII DANKEVYCH (Doctor of Economics, Food security expert, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Public Administration and National Security in Polissia National University Fellow at the George Washington University)
On September 8, 2022, the global virtual class “International Relations & Global Leadership” of the University of Washington State (USA) started, which was joined for the second time by the teachers of the International Economic Relations’ department and students of the “International Economic Relations”
On June 28, 2023, Inna Ukhanova, Olha Husenko and Olena Voronova took part in an interactive webinar: Community Relationship Management (CRM): Building Lasting University – Community Relations to Achieve Economics and Rural Development.
The event is organized by the Odessa National University of Economics and the Consortium for the Improvement of Ukrainian Management Education (CEUME) within the framework of the EURRS program, funded by the US State Department.
The goal of the webinar is to develop participants’ ability to build lasting relationships with community leaders who support economic and rural development.

Teaching subjects in English
Since 2013, the International Economic Relations’ Department of was the first in ONEU to start teaching subjects in English at the first (bachelor) level of education. As of 2023, the following are taught in English:
- International economy;
- International economic relations;
- International trade;
- International organizations;
- Economy of foreign countries;
- International monetary and financial relations.

From February 2022, the teachers of the department (associate professor Inna Ukhanova, associate professor Olena Voronova and senior lecturer Olha Husenko) participate in the international mobility program ” Global virtual class “BUS 280 International Relations & Global Leadership” from Washington State University (USA) and Carson College.

International mobility programs
From February 2022, students began to take part in the international mobility program “Global Virtual Class “BUS 280 International Relations & Global Leadership”” from Washington State University (USA).
The main focus of the global class is concentrated on the influence of international relations and modern drivers of economic development on global business, trade and commercial activity. Thus, 13 students took part in the spring global class of 2022 (February – April 2022); in autumn 2022 (September – November 2022) – 9 students; in the spring class of 2023 (February – April 2023) – 20 students.
Under the leadership of phd., associate professor Ukhanova Inna, phd, associate professor Voronova Olena and senior teacher Husenko Olha students prepared a presentation on “International economic relations of Ukraine during the war and post-war economic recovery”
